We’re honouring Mental Health Awareness Week 2019 by talking about the positive effects your garden can be as therapy.
We’ve been thinking about the simple ways we can look after ourselves and our mental health, one of the reoccurring activities was to spend more time outside.
By spending more time in green spaces or simply bringing nature into your everyday routine can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing.
Doing things like growing food or flowers, exercising outdoors or being around animals can have great positive effects. You can read more about this here.
It can:
- Improve your mood
- Reduce feelings of stress or anger
- Help you take time out and feel more relaxed
- Improve your physical health
- Improve your confidence and self-esteem
- Help you be more active
- Help you make new connections
- Provide peer support.
By simply getting out into your garden to drink in some fresh air can be refreshing for your mind and body. There are great mental benefits from spending time outside for just half an hour to an hour every day.
However, we understand that getting outside isn’t as easy as it sounds for some. Garden steps and tricky terrain can become obstacles in your way when you’re trying to get out into your garden.
A handrail offers you peace of mind to safely move around your home and garden, so that you can get outside to breath in the fresh air and clear out the cobwebs.
The Handrail People manufacture bespoke, attractive, safety handrails from their West Sussex workshop. All of our handrails are made from mild steel and can be easily fitted by our team or your local handyman.
If you, or someone you know could use a helping hand then don’t hesitate to contact us, prevention is better than a fall!
