What are the different finishes for my handrail?

When going to choose your perfect handrail there is lots to think about from what design you would like, to the different finishes you can have. This is where this blog post comes in handy!

Hot-dip galvanising:

Hot dip galvanising is a coating that lasts up to 170 years and a minimum of 75 years, it is the process of coating iron or steel with a layer of zinc. Galvanising provides a long-life low-maintenance corrosion protection which safeguards against atmospheric attack.

Hot-zinc priming:

Hot-zinc priming is a good alternative to hot-dip galvanising. It has a similar level of protection against rust and corrosion but has a smoother finish when paired with powder-coating.

Both hot-dip galvanising and hot-zinc priming can be paired with powder-coating and plas coating.

Powder-coating:

Powder-coating is a type of paint that is mainly applied to metals to provide a harder finish. It is applied as a powder from a spray gun, and then cured in an oven under high heat to form a tough durable skin. This acts as a low-maintenance and long-lasting covering.

Plas coating:

Similarly to powder-coating, plas-coating is a type of paint that is mainly applied to metals to provide a harder finish. It is applied as a powder from a spray gun, then is cured in an oven under high heat to form a tough durable skin. Plas-coating is different in texture to powder-coating, as it provides a plastic like covering.

The above are the different paint finishes available, both come in different colours, you can find them here.

One of our most popular RAL colours is ‘Anthracite grey’ ( RAL 7016) which looks great with our #B27 wrought iron style balustrade which you can see below.
